Towns in Ireland adopt the Didobi Night Index to evaluate their night-time economies.
“The Didobi Night Index is an assessment tool which helps to measure a town’s NTE, through the combination of responses from multiple questions, linked to four different aspects of the night-time economy: economy, people, place, and the environment. From this, a scoring method is applied, with higher scores for when a place has successfully achieved the objectives of the specific measure. Using these four headings as a basis to the Didobi Night Index allows the complexity of the NTE to be recognised across all of the associated activities that occur between 6pm and 6am. A compass diagram is created when all points are plotted and joined up, creating a visual interpretation of a town’s strengths and opportunities for improvement within the night-time economy (see p.x for illustration). Using the Didobi Night Index allows the feasibility of a place’s night-time economy to be assessed. The application of assessment tools in this way allows gaps to be identified, enabling recommendations on better data provision on the NTE to be made. This in turn facilitates strategic planning to capitalise on NTE development potential as a means to promote the growth of towns and villages. “
